Atomic Habits

Atomic: Extremely minute

Atomic: Explosive energy Yesterday I started listening to an audio book by James Clear called Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones.

We all have habits -- they are inescapble. The question is whether or not our habits are serving us or holding us back. I recently identified a few habits of my own that I realized were eating up valuable time and diverting me from where I want to go in life. One of them was Facebook while having my morning coffee. Minutes would turn into an embarrasing indulgence of time that could have been spent doing more productive things. January is the month where we traditionally try to make huge changes in our life through forming resolutions. Gym membership soars at the beginning of January but by the middle of February the numbers are starting to dwindle. New eating plans are adopted and abandoned. Helpful books are bought, schedules revised, and strategic planning gets down and then disappears. Why is it so hard to make these beneficial changes? It seems that failure comes from trying to change too much all at once. I'm only just starting the book, but already I have some ideas about what I need to do in a small way. I'll let you know how my habit change is going and if the book is worth the investment of time and money. Which bad habits would you like to get rid of? And which habits would you like to build? Leave a comment about what you are doing to get your life where you want it to be.
